SBISD celebrates National Arts in Education Week with top honors

Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) is proud to celebrate National Arts in Education Week by highlighting the achievements of our students, teachers, and programs in the performing and fine arts.

For the fifth consecutive year, SBISD has been named a District of Distinction by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA)—a prestigious recognition awarded to only the top 5% of districts in Texas. This honor reflects our commitment to providing high-quality, comprehensive arts education at every level.

One shining example of excellence is Stephanie Walton, an SBISD art educator and Elementary Teacher of the Year, who was recently recognized as a Region 4 Teacher of the Year Finalist. Walton’s recognition underscores the critical role of dedicated arts educators in inspiring creativity, building confidence, and nurturing well-rounded students.

The Power of Arts in Education

Research* show that students engaged in the arts:

  • Perform better academically, with higher GPAs and test scores.
  • Show stronger social-emotional skills, including collaboration, problem-solving, and resilience.
  • Are more likely to graduate and pursue higher education.

The arts are more than electives—they are essential. From elementary music programs that build early literacy, to middle school theater productions that foster teamwork, to high school visual arts that spark career pathways, the arts prepare SBISD students for success in college, careers, and life.

A District-Wide Commitment

Earning the District of Distinction award for the fifth year in a row reflects SBISD’s belief that Every Child deserves access to outstanding arts education. With robust programs in music, theater, dance, and visual arts across all grade levels, our district provides opportunities for every student to explore, perform, and create.

As we celebrate National Arts in Education Week, SBISD proudly affirms its commitment to nurturing creativity, inspiring excellence, and shaping bright futures through the arts.
